Education

In an exhaustive attempt to avoid gross simplification; education should be available to all. The fundamental intent of any School is to provide access to tested, proven and objective tools which the human collective have discovered and developed thus far. Following exposure to what we already know, each individual should be encouraged/taught/inspired to *think* (emphasis on original thought), ask the right questions and utilise methodologies to draw upon logic and rational enquiry. Naturally deter bias and not just recite information (we have devices for that). Rather, aim to identify the connections and significance of the data. It is also apparent that we cannot simply rely on a/one faculty to teach us and our children everything. We are limited by time and capacity, so focus on useful lessons, what is important to you and explore.

Agreed. Critical thought is an essential skill, especially in a day and age where we are drowning in data overload from all angles. I think a key component of that is to cultivate a degree of detachment from the now, not to the extent that one is an outsider, but more to avoid reactive behaviour which is often driven by emotional responses, versus reasoned behaviour. With that said, it's not easy to achieve, but it should at least be strived for.

Think of Ernő Rubik and his invention of  the “Rubik’s Cube” (a ‘spherical device with hollow core and an  arrangement of interlocking projections on the back of the cubes,  too cunning to describe with words. A single central cube on each  face fixed to a three-axis cross locked everything together, but, like  wheels on an axle, the cubes were free to rotate in a single plane.’)  which he developed as an exercise in the manipulation of space  and volumes, which might, he hoped, engage the minds of his architecture  students. Or, think of it as a musical instrument such as a “violin”, for example;  a multi purpose/functional object/device. By this I mean; a  sculptural object with aesthetic qualities + functional as it inspires  interaction which stimulates the dexterity of your brain and the surrounding  environment with vibration (sound).
