Hosting an exhibition of drawings from the British Museum (September 2016). Lines of thought: Drawing from Michelangelo to now explores the importance of drawing as one of the most effective mediums for expressing and representing an artist’s ideas. The exhibition showcases selected drawings from masters such as Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo right up to artists working in the present day. Capture and test ideas through the sketch.
What is “Architecture”? Think of Ernő Rubik and his invention of the “Rubik’s Cube” (a ‘spherical device with hollow core and an arrangement of interlocking projections on the back of the cubes, too cunning to describe with words. A single central cube on each face fixed to a three-axis cross locked everything together, but, like wheels on an axle, the cubes were free to rotate in a single plane.’) which he developed as an exercise in the manipulation of space and volumes, which might, he hoped, engage the minds of his architecture students. Or, think of it as a musical instrument such as a “violin”, for example; a multi purpose/functional object/device. By this I mean; a sculptural object with aesthetic qualities + functional as it inspires interaction which stimulates the dexterity of your brain and the surrounding environment with vibration (sound).
