Deforestation
and impact on Climate is a real issue. Some people pose a question; “is mining
finite resource, such as rock, a solution?”
We
must consider that the mining process often results in exposed earth. Often the
state of which is not conducive to growth of vegetation. Additionally, we have
to account for the carbon dioxide output from the machinery required for the mining
process.
It
can be observed that captured carbon is stored within trees whether live or
processed into timber.
Whilst
trees are cut down, space is generated for further growth and quintessentially;
additional carbon capture.
Perhaps
focus should be on cultivating land and reforestation. This could be reflected
in policy, for example, where reasonable, for every tree cut down at least two
should be replanted.
While
initially it may appear controversial, we must remain objective and always
consider the issue in the wider context, not in isolation.
