Architecture is described as the morphology of art
and science; the harmony between the technical and the creative.
But what qualification does one require?
*Note; the educational system is being reviewed however, this is true in
2016.
The courses have to be accredited by the Architects Registration Board. www.arb.org.uk
Royal Institute of British Architects validation reflects a high quality
programme. www.architecture.com
The Traditional Education route to UK Legal
Registration as an architect:
- Bachelors (undergraduate)_Part 1 ARB accredited/RIBA validation (3
years)
- Year out work experience (recommended, not obligatory)
- Masters (postgraduate)_Part 2 ARB accredited/RIBA validation (2 years)
- At least 24 Months of relevant work experience. Also a minimum of 12
Months within the last 24 Months before pursuing Part 3
- Postgraduate Diploma_Part 3 ARB accredited/RIBA validation (1 year)
However, you are not
restricted to this route!
For example; if you have already acquired relevant/transferable
qualifications (technical/drafting etc), you may skip a year or so. Or, you may
have been working in an architectural practice and therefore can take a process
of examination and submit a portfolio which may gain you the Part 1. Similar
applies if you have qualifications gained outside of UK and are not recognised.
There is also option of part-time or office based study.
So remember; ARB accreditation and the route to qualification is flexible.
